Born in Glangevlin in April 1904, Peter McGovern was a founding member of the Transport Workers Union (T.W.U.) in the USA, which represents workers in Mass Transportation, Airline, Railroad, Utility, University, Municipalities, Service and allied industries.
He initially worked in the U.K. prior to moving to New York in 1925. Over the preceding years he worked in New York, and became one of the founding members of the T.W.U. in 1934, a year before his death.
He was highly respected among his colleagues, as can be witnessed from the letters below, and seemed to have a very bright future indeed ahead of him.
Tragically he died in 1935 as a result of a car accident in New York city.
We have included below a copy of the letters received from the Union to the members of his family subsequent to his death.
We would like to thank Robert Welcher, Director of Education and Research for the Transport Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO, New York City, for all his assistance and for the copy of the Obituary Notice below..
